US Election 2016
The race to the White House is over and Donald Trump is set to be the new President of the United States. Our academics are on hand to
provide stellar comment and analysis on what happens now.
We build knowledge about the world, challenge
conventional wisdom about that world, and create innovative ways to change the
We have a powerful group of scholars, asking critical questions and
challenging convention through their
world-leading social science research (REF
2014). From how best to govern ourselves, to understanding society and how
we acquire language, to how we conduct business and interact with each other, we
answer profound questions.
Our Faculty is home to some of the most highly-rated
social science departments and research centres in the country. We are
training social scientists of the future through our
at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Our students learn how
substantive knowledge about the world is created from a hunch and developed into
credible research with well-supported findings.
To know, we must understand how society works, challenge it, and therefore
understand how to make it better. Welcome to social science at Essex.
Q-Step Affiliate status
We are one of three universities in the UK to receive Q-Step Affiliate status,
meaning you can develop your quantitative skills by taking a specialised degree pathway or receiving a student bursary to go on a quantitative work placement.
The best performing students from departments in our Faculty were celebrated at our Dean’s List events, hosted by our Executive Dean, Professor Sasha Roseneil.
