At Essex we provide innovative, athlete-centred programmes in our focus
sports; volleyball, basketball and rugby sevens launching 2015-16.
Our growing investment in performance sport is already paying dividends.
Essex Blades Volleyball men’s and women’s teams are champions of the British
Universities and Colleges (BUCS) South East Conference Cup and have finished on
top of the League South East 2B, having gone through the whole season unbeaten
in BUCS matches.
In basketball the women were runners up in the South East Conference Up and
the men won all ten matches in the League South East 2B to finish as division
leaders. Saracens is officially endorsing the University’s rugby sevens
programme and is also interested in developing further links with Essex due to
its reputation in elite sport performance research. Other partners will include
Colchester Rugby Club and Colne Rugby Academy.
Scholarships and bursaries
We are an accredited centre for the
Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and offer support for English
athletes recognised by their national governing body. We award both sports
scholarships and sports bursaries.
