The University held its
35th Annual Sports Awards Dinner at the Weston
Homes Community
Stadium again this year.

The highlight of the sporting calendar, the dinner awards final year students
who have made an outstanding contribution to Sports at Essex, along with other
team and special awards. For more details on the awards themselves, please

Members of the University's senior management team and local dignitaries
attended, including the Vice Chancellor, Registar and deputy Mayor and Mayoress
of Colchester. 178 people attended to honour almost 60 students receiving
their Sports Awards Colours in recognition of three years of dedication to
University sport. Eight Exceptional Service to Sport awards were given and
nine students received the newly named Tony Rich Award for Outstanding Sporting
Achievement. This award has been dedicated to Tony Rich, the University's former
Registrar and Secretary in honour to his commitment and involvement in Sport at
Essex.

Professor Colin Riordan, attending his last Sports Awards Dinner as Vice
Chancellor, voiced his pride in Essex and the sporting passion within it.
