The 2011 Sports Awards Dinner

The University held its 34th Annual Sports Awards Dinner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium again this year. 

The highlight of the sporting calendar, the dinner awards final year students who have made an outstanding contribution to Sports at Essex, along with other team and special awards.  For more details on the awards themselves, please go to the details page.

This is a formal occasion and is one of the highlights of the University's sporting calendar.  Members of the University’s senior management team and local dignitaries attended, including the Registrar, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Wivenhoe.  168 people attended to honour over fifty students receiving their Sports Award Colours in recognition of three years of dedication to University sport.  Other presentations also made were:

• The Most Promising Newcomer award to Robert Dadds, for outstanding performances in Squash.
• The Simon Loveday Award awarded to Kerry Jacks from Hockey in recognition of her overall contribution to sport.
• The Director of Sport Award for Outstanding Performance, awarded to Royston Sinclair for his achievements in Trampolining.
• The Sports Federation Presidents award went to Tobias Bawden from Tennis.
• The Social Club of the Year Award went to the Tennis club.
• The Team of the Year went to the Men's Lacrosse team for their impressive unbeaten BUCS performance.
• The Club of the Year went to Archery for their overall improvement and involvements.

This year's guest of honour was Jodie Swallow, a long distance triathlete and Essex Ambassador for the 2012 Olympics.  Jodie held a question and answer session at the dinner and answered an array of questions from the floor.
