The 2010 Sports Awards Dinner

The University held its 33rd Annual Sports Awards Dinner, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Friday 14th May, 2010.

This is a formal occasion and is one of the highlights of the University's sporting calendar.  Members of the University’s senior management team and local dignitaries attended, including the Registrar, and the Deputy Mayoress of Colchester.  204 people attended to honour over sixty students receiving their Sports Award Colours in recognition of three years of dedication to University sport.  Other presentations also made were:

• The Most Promising Newcomer award to Elizabeth Sanders, for outstanding performances in Lacrosse.
• The Simon Loveday Award, awarded to Luke Groves-Peat from Men's Rugby in recognition of his overall contribution to sport.
• The Director of Sport Award for Outstanding Performance, awarded to Adrian Plagiau-Sweetland for obtaining a place on the World Class Start Programme for Rowing in preparation for the Olympics in 2016.
• The Sports Federation Presidents award, went to Sarah Barber from Women's Rugby.
• The Social Club of the Year Award went to the Lacrosse club.
• The Team of the Year went to the Men's Football first team in recognition of achieving the BUCS League and Cup double.
• The Club of the Year went to the Men's Rugby club for their overall improvement both on and off the pitch.

This year's guest of honour was Hannah Stodel, a sailor since the age of three who will be embarking on her fourth Paralympic Games in 2012.  Hannah held a question and answer session at the dinner and answered an array of questions from the floor.
