The 2008 Sports Awards Dinner

Friday 9th May 2008

The University's 31st Annual Sports Awards Dinner was held once again at the Elizabeth Hotel, Copdock.  230 people attended the formal, black tie event along with various principal officers of the University, local dignitaries and our guest speaker, Steve Bradshaw, the driving force behind the building of the new Community Stadium and Chief Executive of Colchester United Community Sports Trust.  Ticket sales were limited for the first time this year due to transport logistics.

The highlight of the sporting calendar, the dinner awards final year students who have made an outstanding contribution to Sports at Essex.

This year 62 students received Full Colours which give recognition to Sporting Performance, with a further 5 students receiving Outstanding Sporting Achievement awards for playing at representative level: David Coates (Wakeboarding), Lynne Pestle (Netball), Jay Smith and Robert Whitely (Men's Football) and Abbie Thorrington (Triathlon).  7 students also received Exceptional Service to Sport awards.
