2008 Alumni Weekend

The 2008 University of Essex Alumni weekend was scheduled to be an action packed weekend; like Alumni weekends in previous years.

The weekend kicked off with the men’s and women’s Basketball.    The Men’s Basketball was won by the Alumni with a two point lead, giving the Alumni an early advantage.  The Women’s Basketball was not counted in the overall Alumni competition due to low numbers of Alumni players.

Next it was the American Football with the students thrashing the Alumni 38 points to 21.  The Men’s Hockey made it a 2:1 lead for the Alumni with the Alumni players taking an easy win.

The Squash and Badminton came next with the students winning the Badminton and losing the Squash to keep the competition close.

The Trampolining kicked off at midday and it was a closely fought competition with the Alumni taking the overall win by two points.  The Women’s Hockey was also won by the Alumni with a result of 4 goals to 2.

The students managed to claim back another win in the pool competition with an easy win and end result of 13:2.

The afternoon was dominated by the students with them winning the following matches: Women’s Football 10:2, Men’s Hockey 3:1, Men’s Football 3rds 3:1, Men’s Football 2nds 3:0.  The Men’s Football 1sts game was a draw, as was the Men’s Rugby.

The Women’s Rugby was won by the Alumni with a score of 24:5.  The Netball was won by the students and the Cricket was completed just in time with the Alumni taking the win for that match.

The overall Foundation Cup was won by the Students with 10 matches won to the Alumni’s 7.
