Planning processes
Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan is the University's central planning document. It
encompasses all areas of the University and is monitored internally and by the
Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
Further information, including the full text of the
Strategic Plan is available on the
Strategy and Vision pages.
Faculty
The Faculty Plan will be considered and approved by the University Steering
Group in the spring term. It will be accompanied by the detailed Faculty budget
based on departmental planning information. It will describe the faculty
strategy and how it will be delivered. Faculty Plans are among the information
considered when the University Plan is updated in May.
The plans can be viewed on the
Planning Office
Sharepoint site (restricted).
Professional Services
The planning cycle also extends to the Professional Services sections.
Section planning is central to the delivery of the University's Strategic Plan
as it is the means by which responsibility for individual performance indicators
is assigned and progress monitored.
The Professional Services Plan outlines key priorities and how the
Professional Services will support delivering University objectives.
The current
Professional Services Plan
can be viewed on the web site of the Registrar and Secretary.
Student numbers
The Planning Office consults on and produces departmental intake targets in
the light of the faculty plans, previous intake, current admissions data and
internal and external factors. In setting intake targets, account is taken of
the number of HEFCE places available (the contract fte which acts as a cap on
home/ EU numbers), the overall financial situation and the particular position
of a given department. Student intake targets inform the University's financial
forecasts and are reviewed and monitored annually.
Student intake targets and projections are also considered for partner
colleges.
See supporting faculty planning for more
information.
Departmental reviews
Major reviews are undertaken as required. The University Steering Group will
determine which departments would benefit from a review and the scope of each
review, which will be targeted on specific aspects of the medium-term strategic
direction of the department.
