Planning Office

Introduction

The purpose of the Planning Office is to support a performance-focused approach to planning, providing a wide range of management information and other analysis to support strategic planning.

The Office provides the information and analysis underpinning the University’s new academic planning process, which involves all departments and faculties, culminating in the approval of departmental plans and budgets. It is responsible for the provision of performance information and other business intelligence. The Office also undertakes policy analysis in the areas of student numbers, funding and supports the presentation of data for public information.

The senior management lead for the Planning Office is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Office also works closely with Faculties, Finance Section, Academic Section, Communications and External Relations (in particular Admissions), and the Research and Enterprise Office.

The Planning Office aims to provide a strong and responsive service to the University, respected for the quality and accuracy of its information and other strategic planning support.

Specific responsibilities

The specific responsibilities of the Planning Office include:

  • supporting the University’s Strategic Plan and new academic planning process, including the provision of external benchmarking information and monitoring of progress against University and departmental plans;
  • integrating data from a wide range of internal and external sources on University performance relating to education and research;
  • analysing and providing information, analysis and data to inform academic planning;
  • working with others across the University to enhance the quality, scope and accessibility of University management information;
  • undertaking analysis of a wide range of University data to inform policy and strategy in areas such as widening access, student retention, admissions, and employability;
  • external statutory student data returns and related public information; and
  • leading the preparation of student numbers forecasts and planning models, and integrating student numbers into budget planning.
