We offer a varied short course programme in social research methods. The high
quality courses are taught by experts in their fields either from the University
or from our partner organisations and reflect the teaching and research
excellence of the social sciences at the University of Essex.
Who are the courses aimed at?
These training events are aimed at PhD students, practitioners and academics
wishing to deepen their understanding of social research and upgrade their
skills in research methods.
What courses do we offer?
We offer a range of courses from introductory courses to more advanced
methods including:

How much do they cost?
Fees vary for each course and can be found on each event listing, but typical
prices are:
Standard fee (commercial, local and central government organisations)
- 180 for 1-day course
- 360 for 2-day course
Higher Education staff or registered charities (non-Essex)
- 120 for 1-day course
- 240 for 2-day course
Registered PhD students (non-Essex)
- 60 for 1-day course
- 120 for 2-day course
Essex staff (outside the Department of Sociology and associated
units)
- 60 for 1-day course
- 120 for 2-day course
Essex PhD students
- The course fee is dependent on the course, please check the
listing for full details
Cancellation policy
If participants wish to cancel their booking, they will receive a full refund
for the course fee provided they cancel with no less than 1 month notice. No
refunds can be given after this time. In the event we are forced to cancel the
course, participants will receive a full refund of any course fees paid. Please
note that participants will not be reimbursed for any associated costs incurred,
including travel and accommodation.
