There are many events and seminars run by the department, and by other departments, which are not only a great way to network but also share your research. We encourage all research students to present at the sociology departmental seminars.

It is important to prepare for your career after your PhD and our short course programme in social research is an excellent way to build your knowledge and skills in addition to those you gain during your research programme.

The flagship student resource centre offers support on both an academic and personal level, specifically aimed at Sociology students.

Our renowned off-campus annual graduate conference brings together all of our postgraduate students with staff to discuss a range of topics in a panel/presentation and poster context. It's also a fantastic social event.

The annual Doctoral Conference, which takes place in the summer term, gives all PhD students the opportunity to present their work under conference conditions to staff and MA students.
