Research degrees
Events, training and support
Employers in all sectors look for a range of achievements, skills and
attributes in addition to educational qualifications. Why not take advantage of
the further professional development opportunities available to you while at
Essex.
There are many
events and seminars run by the department, and by other
departments, which are not only a great way to network but also share your
research. We encourage all research students to present at the sociology
departmental seminars.
It is important to prepare for your career after your PhD and our
short
course programme in social research is an excellent way to build
your knowledge and skills in addition to those you gain during your research
programme.
The flagship
student resource
centre offers support on both an academic and personal level,
specifically aimed at Sociology students.
Our
renowned off-campus annual
graduate
conference
brings together all of our postgraduate students with staff to discuss a range
of topics in a panel/presentation and poster context. It's also a fantastic
social event.
The annual Doctoral Conference, which takes place in the summer
term, gives all PhD students the opportunity to present their work under
conference conditions to staff and MA students.
