Fuller Masters Scholarship

For 2012 entry, we are offering one scholarship to UK and EU students to study a taught masters course in our department. The scholarship is supported by the Fuller Fund and is awarded on the basis of academic merit. One scholarship will be offered in 2012-13.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Awards (UK/EU)

As part of the ESRC Doctoral Training Centre, we offer 16 fully-funded ESRC studentships, worth between 18,325 and 21,575 per year for each year of study. These opportunities are available to very strong applicants from the UK and European Union. PhD studies are fully funded for either three or four years.

The three year programme (+3) is available to those students who have already completed a programme of research training.

The four year programme (1+3) comprises of one year's research training, at masters level, linked to a three year PhD for those students taking:

• MA Sociological Research
• MSc Criminology and Socio-Legal Research
• MSc Human Rights and Research Methods
• MSc Environmental Governance
• MSc Survey Methods for Social Research
• MA Longitudinal Social Research

Once you have received an offer on the above programmes you may be considered for an award through the Doctoral Training Centre. The deadline for applications for 2012-13 is now closed. Further details about funding for 2012-13 will be available soon.

Edge Scholar Grants

A new partnership scholarship with the Edge Foundation has launched for 2011 for Home/EU students to study our MA Sociology and Management. Deadline for applications is now closed. Further details about funding for 2012-13 will be available soon.

Faculty of Social Science Masters Scholarship

For students starting their undergraduate study in 2012, the Faculty of Social Sciences is offering up to five competitive Masters Scholarships to students whose performance is exceptional during their first degree and who choose to remain at the University of Essex in the same department to study for a Masters.

University of Essex Social Science Research Scholarships (UK/EU/Overseas)

The Faculty of Social Sciences has launched the University of Essex Social Science Research Scholarships that offers PhD students studying in the Department the opportunity to compete for a selection of research and teaching awards. Essex Loyalty Discounts

For 2011 entry onwards, the University of Essex now offers a ten per cent discount to Essex graduates and former study abroad students on the first year of tuition fees for postgraduate study under the new Essex Loyalty Discount scheme.
