Staff Common Room Association

This is to let all members of staff know that membership is open to you, and to tell you of the benefits of membership. For

a monthly subscription of £3.50 you may use the common room at any time during university hours (including evenings and

weekends) as a quiet haven. To find us, enter the Law Dept from Sq4, go down one flight of stairs, turn right and we are the

last door on the left before the lift, room number 5S.4.19. You are welcome to pay us a visit to see the common room before

deciding whether to join.

 

A comprehensive range of daily newspapers and periodicals are available to read. Coffee, tea or drinking chocolate, fruit

juice, chilled water is available from the kitchen area, FREE of charge to members. The coffee is fresh filtered and the

cups are washed up for the members on a daily basis. A microwave oven and toaster is available for those wishing to heat up

food and a dining area is provided.

 

Social events are regularly organised to places of interest. Past excursions have visited Paris, Bruges during the summer

and Valkenburg and Lille for the Christmas Markets for weekends, Buckingham Palace, Kew Gardens, Bluewater, theatre and

brewery visits as well as lunchtime/evening events at the university.

 

Members are entitled to bring in the occasional guest. The common room may also be booked for use in the evenings or at

the weekend for a modest charge, for academic or related activities or for private use.

 

New members will be made most welcome and those wishing to join should complete the application form below, sign and

return it to me, whereupon you may commence using the common room as a full member.

Authorisation for the deduction of monthly subscription from salary

I confirm that I am a member of the University’s General Assembly, and request the University of Essex to deduct my

monthly subscription from my salary, and pay the sums deducted to the Treasurer each month. The monthly subscription to

be such sum as may be determined by the SCRA from time to time.

 

The current subscription of £3.50 per month will be deducted as soon as possible after receipt of this authorisation.
