RSS feeds at the University of Essex
What is RSS?
"RSS" stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary" (depending who you ask) and is an XML-based format used to publish frequently updated
works such as blog posts, news headlines and website articles.
Why should I use RSS?
RSS allows you to subscribe to updates from your favourite websites, so you can be alerted as soon as new
content is put online, rather than having to browse through the website to find it.
How do I use RSS?
In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, you will need an RSS feed-reader (or aggregator) such as
Google
Reader. The feed-reader will regularly check for new online content, and provide it in handy bite-size
chunks for you to read and review at your leisure.
