Knowledge Gateway

A Novel Type of Research Park
The development of a 16 hectare site adjacent to the main University campus is enabling the creation of a 'Knowledge Gateway' - a novel type of Research Park with special facilities for business and enterprise activities, and access to new markets and fresh research areas. The focus for the Knowledge Gateway will be a world class Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution that draws on the combined strengths of the Departments of Sociology, Economics, Law, Government and the Institute for Social and Economic Research with the teaching, research and practice of the Human Rights Centre. The Institute will be housed in a flagship building designed by world famous architect Daniel Libeskind.
Infrastructure works on the Knowledge Gateway site have begun and this construction will give the University and the Eastern Region a leading role in influencing significant international developments in the 21st Century. The Institute supports multiple research, training and knowledge transfer activities attracting governmental, non-governmental and business interests on a global scale.
When completed, the Knowledge Gateway will form an extensive community that will channel university research and expertise throughout the world, and support diverse enterprises within its environment. In addition to the Institute, there will be an office village for housing clusters of associative research and commercial activities that will be attracted to the site, a hotel for visitors and various leisure facilities to support this exciting new development.
