SAMT activity takes place over a period of 18 months beginning in September of year 1 and ending in February of year 2 as set out in the following table. Year 1 is the year in which the survey takes place and year 2 is the year in which the follow-up and reporting of action takes place.

Send Heads of Department (HoD) a remind of the policy of SAMT, together with a a checklist of modules (SAMT) checklist being run by the department in that academic year, sorted into undergraduate and postgraduate modules. |
| October (Year 1) | HoD | The department agrees which modules are to be assessed and the methods(s) of assessment to be used for SAMT. Where the method of assessment is determined by the individual module director, s/he must seek the approval of the Head of Department for the chosen method. Where a standard method of assessment is to be used throughout the department, the head of department should ensure that all members of teaching staff, including graduate students, are informed of the arrangements. |

| October-December (year 2) | HoD | In the Autumn term of each academic year, the Head of Department reports to the Staff/student liaison committee in summary form on SAMT in the previous academic year, including details of any changes made to modules as a results of the survey. |
| November- February (year 2) | HoD | The Head of Department ensures that the outcomes of SAMT are conveyed to the relevant Annual Review of Courses (ARC) meeting for degree programmes in the department, for joint degree programmes that are administered by another department and for area studies and other interdisciplinary degree programmes. HoD should ensure that a blank copy of any standard SAMT questionnaire(s) is appended to the Annual Review of Courses report that is submitted to the Executive Dean.
