Student representation and feedback

Overviewstudent taking notes

Student feedback is a vital part of the University's approach to quality assurance and enhancement. It is therefore important that students are given the opportunity to feedback and they take the time to feedback. This is done in a variety of ways.

Student Reps

Student Representatives  are students who are elected from Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. They represent the voice of their fellow students in Student Staff Liaison Committees by feeding back what is going well and what could be improved, therefore giving the department the opportunity to enhance the student experience. The Student Rep policy explains in further detail the role of student representation in departments. Faculty Convenors also represent students on different University committees.

The Students' Union website provides information on the student representative role and links to student representative contact details.

Student assessment of module and teaching (SAMT)

Student assessment of module and teaching (SAMT) is carried out every three years as a minimum for existing modules, and within the first two years for new or significantly revised modules. Departments can seek feedback more frequently if they wish.

Student satisfaction surveys

Student Satisfaction Surveys are institutional wide surveys that the University uses to gauge overall satisfaction amongst students. There are set procedures for giving out the survey and reviewing the results. Once the results have been reviewed and analysed, the University can then enhance the student experience.

Student Staff liaison committees

Student Staff Liaison Committees are an opportunity for course representatives to feedback on behalf of their fellow peers on areas of good practice and areas that need to be improved.
