New course approval
Part 2: Final Approval, Notes and
Guidance
Part 2:
Final Approval, involves providing full details of any new modules
and the programme specification. Once Final Approval is granted
offers of admission to the course can be made.
An application for Part 2 approval should be made using the
Part 2: Final Approval proforma (word
document).
The Part 2 Proforma must be accompanied by a
programme specification,
module map, all new
module proposals and a
report from an external expert.
Please note,
in some cases a validation event may be required for final approval. If it
is anticipated that a validation event may be needed because a proposal falls
into approval category 3 (see
new course approval)
departments should discuss this possibility with the Academic Standards and
Partnerships Office.
If a validation event is needed then the Dean will appoint a validation panel,
with delegated powers to scrutinise the proposal and give part 2 approval on
behalf of the Faculty/Graduate School. Full details about approval via a
validation event are available here.
Where a validation event is
not needed, then the Dean can provide Part 1: Approval for Publicity and the
relevant Board will conduct Part 2 scrutiny. Parts 1 and 2 can be dealt with
together if you provide the both the approval forms at the same time and provide
the outlines of the new modules and the programme specification.
Proposers of new
courses involving a year abroad, sandwich year or
work-based or placement learning should provide information about how
that aspect of the course will be managed inline with the
University's policy and guidelines on workbased/placement learning.
If you have any questions about this aspect of your proposal you are advised to
contact the Academic Standards and Partnership Office in the first instance. Proposers are advised that unless specific permission is granted by
the Academic Board, assessment of any period of study abroad is
compulsory.
