At the April 2010 meeting of
Senate, the following
statement on variations to the Rules of Assessment be approved for
immediate implementation:
“Variations to the UG Rules of
Assessment and associated credit framework must be submitted to the UG School
Board for approval.
The requested variation and a supporting rationale
must be discussed with the Dean of Faculty in advance of submission to the
School Board.
Variations to the rules are exceptional and must
normally either be associated with meeting programme level learning outcomes or
professional, statutory or regulatory body requirements, or requirements for
progressing to a period of study abroad.
It would be unusual for a programme to require an
exception to the rules in order to ensure a learning outcome is met, as
designating a module as core and ensuring there is a breadth of learning and
assessment methods over the length should enable course designers to ensure that
essential knowledge, understanding and skill outcomes would be demonstrated by
any successful student.
Examples of valid exceptions include requiring all 360 credits to be passed in
order to meet professional competency requirements, and requiring limited
additional credit or higher Stage Marks to be achieved in joint or year abroad
programmes in order to meet the entry requirements at partner institutions.”
