The role of the periodic review secretary
[Back to
periodic review home page]
The secretary to the periodic review would usually be the Education Manager
connected to the department/school under review.
Stage 1
In advance of the review, the Academic Standards and Partnerships Office
(ASPO) will have sent the Stage 1 proforma to the department/school for
completion. The completed Stage 1 form will be returned to the Secretary (and
copied to ASPO) to produce the Stage 1 report. The Secretary will submit the
report, with any recommendations, to the Chair of the periodic review panel and
the Stage 1 report will be included in the documentation for the Stage 2 event.
Stage 2
The secretary to the review:
- provides support to the chair.
- should allow time to read through the documentation prior to
the review
- note issues raised by panel members during discussions,
highlighting any potential items for the agenda for meetings
with students and the course team, and which may lead to an
outcome
- should be ready to draw key themes which may contribute to
the outcome to the attention of panel members during the final
discussion
The stage 2 report
The secretary to the review:
- sends a copy of the draft recommendations to the
department/school within 48 hours and prepares the initial draft
report on behalf of (and in consultation with) the chair
- circulates the draft report to the panel for comment
- makes any necessary modifications to the report, which is
subject to the chair’s approval, within 3 weeks of the
completion date of the review before the report is circulated to
the department/school
- submits the agreed final version of
the report to the secretary of the relevant
Faculty Education Committee. A final copy of the report should be sent to ASPO
for permanent record.
Advice and guidance on the role of the secretary can be provided by the
Academic Standards and Partnerships Office.
