Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Standards)
Faculty of Humanities and Comparative Studies
Professor Jane Wright was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Standards)
in 2011 and is also the Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for the Faculty of
Humanities and Comparative Studies. She was Head of the School of Law from
2009-2011, having previously held the roles of Director of the Human Rights
Centre (2005-6) and Dean of the School of Law (2001-4).
Key roles
Professor Wright is one of five Pro-Vice-Chancellors who deputise for the
Vice-Chancellor and support the Vice-Chancellor in strategic planning and
management.
As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Standards), Professor
Wright is responsible for all aspects of the University's
policy and strategy on academic standards including learning
and teaching. She is also responsible for student affairs
and support, terms and conditions for academic staff, and
staff development.
She is responsible for academic standards on the
University's campuses at Colchester, Southend and Loughton,
and at all our collaborative partners. This includes
University Campus Suffolk, which is jointly owned with the
University of East Anglia.
She also oversees the
Faculty of Humanities
and Comparative Studies including the Department of Art
History and Theory, East 15 Acting School, Department of
History, Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre
Studies, Department of Philosophy and the International
Academy.
Together with the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and
Secretary, the Director of Finance, and the Director of
Communications and External Relations, the five
Pro-Vice-Chancellors constitute the University's senior
management team, the University Steering Group (USG).
