Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Partnerships)
Faculty of Law and Management

Professor Nigel Smith, PVCProfessor Nigel South is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Partnerships) and is responsible for the Faculty of Law and Management.

Key roles:

Professor South is one of five Pro-Vice-Chancellors who deputise for the Vice-Chancellor and support the Vice-Chancellor in strategic planning and management.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Partnerships), Professor South works with colleagues across the University and in partner institutions and other organisations.

He also has responsibility for overseeing academic development at the Southend campus, alongside widening participation and community outreach activities.

Professor South is responsible for the strategic direction and financial performance of the Faculty of Law and Management and its constituent parts: the Essex Business School; the Human Rights Centre; the Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution; and the School of Law.

Together with the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Secretary, the Director of Finance, and the Director of Communications and External Relations, the five Pro-Vice-Chancellors constitute the University's senior management team, the University Steering Group (USG).
