Objective
The
aim of this symposium is to bring together scientists actively involved in
investigation of the role of sensory deficits in developmental disorders of
reading and language. Research in this area spans a diverse range of
disciplines including auditory and visual psychophysics, speech perception,
physiology, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology. The meeting will
provide an opportunity for scientists from these varied fields to exchange and
discuss the latest experimental findings and their implications. Some specific
objectives of the meeting are: (i) to assess the evidence supporting a causal
link between auditory and visual deficits and reading/language impairment,
(ii) to review the effectiveness of current remediation techniques (e.g.
auditory training, use of tinted lenses), (iii) to consider the possible
application of research findings in diagnosis. In addition, the symposium will
serve to identify key areas for future research.
Individuals
interested in presenting their research findings at the meeting, either in the
form of a 20-minute oral presentation or a poster, should submit an abstract
following the procedures set out here. For further
information, please contact Nick Hill.
Key
words: dyslexia, specific language impairment.
