BIOGRAPHY

I obtained a BSc and DPhil in Experimental Psychology from the University of Sussex in 1972, and 1978 respectively, and went on to a number of research and lectureship positions. In most recent years this included positions at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the Open University,  and Senior Lecturer in Abnormal Psychology at the University of East Anglia, before coming to Essex in May, 2012.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Broadly, my research interests focus on the attentional and interpretive  cognitive biases that accompany anxiety and depression, and how these can be modified with the aim of ameliorating anxiety and depressive symptoms.  Recent work is focusing on examining potential relationships between these biases, and further developing cognitive theoretical accounts of how they function.
