Teaching in the department offers an undergraduate degree course in psychology, which can be taken as either a BSc or a BA, as well as an MSc (Conversion course), all of which are accredited by the British Psychological Society. We take in about 160 undergraduate students each year and also run a number of postgraduate courses (MSc, MRes, PhD) with around 40 postgraduate
students at any given time. The department attracts large numbers of students from all over the UK and overseas and provides a supportive and stimulating environment in which to study and conduct research in a leading centre for psychological science.

The Department of Psychology provides a vibrant academic environment for high quality research and teaching in psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Since our foundation in 1991, we have rapidly expanded to become a leading centre for research and teaching in Psychology.

A purpose-built Centre for Brain Science (CBS) was opened in 2009 that contains
state-of-the-art facilities. The CBS contains up to date equipment allowing us to directly measure and modulate brain activity as well as a range of equipment to measure eye-movements and various indices of physiological response. These technologies are a fantastic resource for all members of the Department as well as members of other academic departments at Essex who are interested in the neural and physiological correlates of behavioural and cognitive processes. click here to visit the CBS
