Psychology Careers and Employability (PS117)

PS117-4-FY: Psychology Careers and Employability

The module is co-ordinated by Dr Helen Standage to whom queries should be addressed.

This module will be one of three "Careers and Employability" modules that will run across years 1, 2, and 3. A full outline of the module will be distributed during the first lecture. The aim of these modules is to improve the employability of Psychology students. The modules will provide students with opportunities to reflect and decide upon their career aspirations, help them identify the steps required to reach those goals, and introduce them to opportunities and resources that will help them to complete these steps.

The module will comprise a series of timetabled sessions run and administered collaboratively by staff from the Department of Psychology (Dr Tracy Robinson, Prof Sheina Orbell, Dr Will Mathews, Dr Nick Cooper, Dr Philip Cozzolino & Dr Helen Standage) and the Employability and Careers Centre (Ms Saffron Fidgett & Ms Bobbie Matharu), with input from the Faculty Employability Co-ordinator (Ms Karen Gooch), as well as activities that students complete in their own time.

The Year 1 module will introduce employability and career planning, familiarize students with the resources available to assist their career development, and help them to develop a career action plan, which they can pursue through their time at university.
