Before coming to the University of Essex to do his PhD in Philosophy, Steven studied Continental Philosophy at Warwick and English and Philosophy at Kent. He then took up a two year research fellowship in the Philosophy Department at Essex, where he taught Continental Philosophy and Philosophy and Literature.
