Biography

James received his bachelors and masters degree from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Durham. He completed a PhD at the Department of Philosophy, University of Essex in 2008. He currently holds a Junior Research Fellowship and works as a Part-time teacher at the University of Essex Philosophy Department.

Current research

The ad hominem fallacy and ad hominem polemics; Kierkegaard and the deterioration of religious life in the 19th century.

Research interests

Philosophy of religion, especially in Kierkegaard and Nietzsche; Kierkegaard, especially his method and relationship to Hegelianism and culture; Heidegger, especially his conception of ‘world’; fallacy theory in informal logic; philosophical methodology and polemics.
