Professor Mark Sacks
(1953 - 2008)
The Department of Philosophy is greatly saddened to report
the death of Professor Mark Sacks on 17 June 2008.
Mark joined
the Philosophy Department in January 1992 and was Head
from 2004 to 2006. He was an internationally known scholar
and the founding editor of the European Journal of
Philosophy. All of us who worked with Mark were constantly
impressed not just by his great intelligence and subtlety
but also by his kindness, his warmth and his light sense
of humour. He was an intellectual beacon in the Department
to both staff and students alike and a great friend to
those who were close to him. He was also very much a
family man and our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife
and children. His untimely death is a great loss for us
all and it is regretted beyond words.
