Alumni discount for postgraduate fees

If you are applying for a postgraduate course, and have previously studied at Essex, you could be eligible for our Alumni Loyalty Discount on the first year of your postgraduate tuition fees.

Scholarships and bursaries

We offer many funding opportunities to support undergraduate and postgraduate students. Please note that most funding deadlines are from January to March, and you will need to have an offer of admission from our University in order to apply for a scholarship.

    School of Philosophy and Art History support

    The School of Philosophy and Art History offers a number of postgraduate taught scholarships for the academic year 2017/18 on the basis of past achievements, the quality of the application and the contribution we expect the applicant to make to our postgraduate research community.

    SPAH International Masters Scholarships

    Our School of Philosophy and Art History Masters Scholarships support talented students to undertake postgraduate taught study. We have up to 4 partial tuition fee waivers of £6,125 and another 2 partial tuition fee waivers of £2,650 for full-time overseas students entering in October 2017. This is an excellent opportunity to join a top-class teaching and research community ranked in the top ten for research quality in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework.

    SPAH Masters Scholarships

    Our School of Philosophy and Art History Masters Scholarships support talented students to undertake postgraduate taught study. We have up to 4 partial tuition fee waivers of £6,125 and another 2 partial tuition fee waivers of £2,650 for Home/EU Students entering in October 2017. Preference will be given to full-time candidates, though part-time students will be considered. This is an excellent opportunity to join a top-class teaching and research community ranked in the top ten for research quality in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework.

    You must have an offer for a postgraduate degree at Essex before you can apply for these awards.

    The deadline for applications for these fee waivers is Monday 22 May 2017.

    The deadline for applying for CHASE AHRC PhD studentships is in January each year. If you'd like to apply, we strongly encourage you to contact us well in advance of the deadline to discuss your proposal and how we can support it.

    School of Philosophy and Art History Research Scholarship Scheme

    SPAH Doctoral Scholarships

    Our School of Philosophy and Art History Doctoral Scholarships support talented applicants to undertake full-time postgraduate research study. This is an excellent opportunity to join a top-class teaching and research community ranked in the top ten for research quality in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework.

    Awards that we may offer for entry in autumn 2017 include:

    • a fee waiver for Home/EU applicants worth £4,200 per year for three years;
    • a partial fee waiver for Overseas applicants worth £4,200 per year for three years

    Our Scholarship Committee will only make awards if applicants of sufficient merit come forward. We reserve the right to channel funding between our different postgraduate schemes. Successful applicants can only hold one award at a time.

    You must have an offer for a postgraduate degree at Essex before you can apply for this award.

    To be considered for School of Philosophy and Art History scholarships we require a completed application form, CV and research proposal (up to 2,000 words). We may also take into account any materials that you sent us when you applied for a place on our PhD programme.
