Keynote lecture - The Politics of Evil by Dr Jeffrey Howard

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has beheaded several British and American hostages in the past year and threatens to kill more hostages unless the West pays up. While France, Germany, and other European nations have paid terror groups like ISIS to free hostages, the UK and US both refuse. Who is right? This interactive talk will explain why we cannot simply appeal to our gut instincts to solve the great moral dilemmas of politics. Confronting evil intelligently depends upon getting clear about both the facts of our social world and the values that should guide us. It depends, in short, on social science.
