The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations cover the operation, suitability for use and inspection of lifting equipment.

All lifting equipment must carry an identification mark which can be tracked back to the inspection record.
It is likely that lifting equipment in departments and sections is already inspected by a contractor working for the Estate Management Section. However due to the wide definition of lifting equipment departments and sections should ensure that the Estate Management Section do have all lifting equipment identified on their inventory.

Lifting equipment must also be maintained in a safe condition. This is in addition to the formal inspection.
Safe working loads must also be marked on all lifting equipment and must not be exceeded.
