Overseas Travel
Travel health advice and immunisation should be an essential part of any travel plans made by staff going abroad, whether on University business or on holiday.
Immunisation
Occupational Health does not provide vaccinations for travel abroad. Always consult your GP or Practice Nurse for an assessment of your immunisation needs, preferably six to eight weeks before departure, but also if you have to travel at short notice.
The assessment will take account of previous immunisation, health risks in the countries you visit, reason for travel, duration of your stay and expected living conditions.
Insurance
Always arrange adequate health insurance before you travel. Staff and students travelling on University business can arrange insurance by contacting the secretary in Financial Accounting (Finance Section).
From 1 January 2006, UK residents travelling in Europe will require a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to receive healthcare that becomes necessary during a visit to an EEA country or Switzerland.
