First Aid Arrangements

The Occupational Health Service is responsible for ensuring the University has suitable and sufficient First Aid arrangements, as specified in the First Aid at Work Regulations.

All staff authorised to provide first aid on University premises have completed the First Aid at Work course and exam accredited by the Health and Safety Executive.

Any accident that occurs on University premises and results in personal injury, however slight, must be reported to the Safety Office by completing the University Accident Report Form.

Colchester Campus

Telephone 2222 for immediate first aid assistance if someone is injured or taken ill at work.  Patrol Officers are qualified to give First Aid and provide 24-hour cover for the Colchester Campus.

Other trained First Aiders are located within departments (including Day Nursery, Sports Centre, Biological Sciences) where their names are displayed on First Aid signs.  First Aiders have access to a box of first aid supplies and should order additional supplies from Occupational Health.

The First Aid room 4.02 (Biological Sciences building) may be used by staff who need a period of recovery before returning to work, or are unwell and waiting for transport home.

No casualty should be left unattended in the First Aid room, unless a responsible person is available to periodically check their recovery.

All requests for emergency services at the University must be made by telephoning 2222. Ask for the service you require - First Aid, Ambulance, Fire Service or Police. This will ensure vehicles can be directed to the incident by Patrol Officers, without any delay.
