University events unravel the truth about student finances
Students thinking of applying to university can find out everything they need to know about managing their finances and what to expect from higher education at two events at the University of Essex.
The two information evenings will include separate sessions for prospective students and their parents addressing the issues specific to them. Both will take place on 20 November, from 7.15pm, one at the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall at the Colchester Campus and the other in the Elmer Suite at the Southend Campus.
“The recent changes to the cost of higher education, along with an excess of sometimes conflicting information has left many prospective students worrying about whether they can afford university,” said Claudia Carey, Education Outreach Officer at the University.
“However, despite what they might hear, higher education is accessible to all, especially as there are numerous scholarship and bursary opportunities available. This event will provide prospective students and their parents or carers with the up-to-date facts with which to make an informed choice,” she added.
There will be an interactive budgeting workshop for prospective students while current Essex students will be on hand to explain what life at university is really like.
Admissions staff from the University will give parents and carers key information about the admissions process, important dates to be aware of and what universities look for in applications. They will also find out about financial assistance available.
