New criminology degrees at Essex
Prospective students at the University of Essex can now choose from two new single honours BAs in Criminology, and Criminology and the Media, which have just been launched to complement the Department of Sociology’s range of criminology-related degrees.
Topics in the new degrees range from the sociology of crime and control, policing and criminal justice, global crime, human rights, social justice and crime and the media.
Pam Cox, the department’s Publicity, Marketing and Recruitment Director said: ‘Criminology is extremely well-established at Essex and we hope that these new degrees will strengthen our existing offering. Criminology appeals to students because it tackles some of the most pressing issues, decisions and dilemmas facing societies today.’
She added: “Criminology staff at Essex have frequently worked as consultants on high profile projects with organisations like the Home office, the Police Foundation, local authorities and public policy organisations. Their work is often highly topical and newsworthy. Students also benefit from this as we draw on it in our teaching and encourage them to think about the pressures and opportunities that careers in these sectors can entail.”
