Seminars

At university, a great deal of your time will be spent attending lectures. In addition, you will be expected to engage with your subject in a more active way by discussing ideas and sharing opinions with tutors and classmates during seminars.

Increasingly, on many degree programmes at university, you will be assessed not only on your written work but also on your presentations and contribution during class, so it is in your interests to develop your ability to express your ideas verbally as well as in writing.

This section starts by looking at how seminars differ from lectures and considers how participation in seminars can aid the learning process. You will also find some suggestions included in this section about ways in which you can make an active contribution to class discussions.
