About mySkills
The advice and the resources within these webpages have been authored by academic and support staff at the University; they are also regularly updated in response to demand and feedback. The advice is mostly general, rather than subject-specific, but wherever possible we have included what specific departments do, if it is appropriate to the context; an obvious area where this is the case is referencing.
To learn more about the website, try the links to the left: there is an Academic Glossary section, which discusses and defines terms that are used in university-level study, such as 'argumentation'; there is a section on Student Support , which details the type of central support the University offers students; there is a section on Learning Styles , where you can try different self-assessments and learn more about yourself as a learner, including what your strengths and preferences are; a section for International Students , although if you are indeed a non-native speaker, the rest of the website will also be useful (likewise, native speakers will find some of the languages resources helpful); a Site Map ; and a Help section.
Alternatively, try the buttons above: the Skills section is the main repository, and houses all of the central University online resources relating to skills; the Depts section outlines the academic support and resources that your specific department(s) provide(s); the Staff section is a restricted-access area for teaching resources; the Events section contains information about academic/study skills workshops and other activities and services; and the Links section lists the best of internal and external related links.
