Module Description
This module aims to ensure that students are given the necessary tools to undertake phonological description, providing the theoretical background which will help them to develop skills in the analysis of data and the formulation and solving of problems, together with the appraisal of existing theories and analyses.
Learning outcomes
Students will have a sound understanding of phonological analysis which they will be able to apply to new data and to a variety of languages. LG404 also provides a preparation for second term modules such as LG631 (Constraint-based Phonology) and LG604 (English Phonology).

1x2hr lecture per week for 10 weeks.

100 per cent Coursework Mark

1x3000 word essay or equivalent to be submitted on Friday of week 16.
