BA W441 Acting and Contemporary Theatre
In this module you will research and create a project attempting to explore a contemporary issue. You will learn to use theatre to contemplate and express ideas and emotional engagement with the chosen issue and further develop the skills of communicating with your audience.
The final output can occur in a variety of forms (such as scripted or devised, existing work or new writing). The performance project will lead to a production at the school theatre for public audience. You will learn to engage as part of a larger company that will include designer and technicians.
To provide opportunities for students to use theatre to articulate an opinion
- To further develop students’ writing, devising and performing skills
- To provide opportunities for students to experiment with the uses of performance
- Expansion of acting skill (stretching and widening your acting abilities)
- Textual comprehension of political and polemic texts (understanding and interpretation of language, plot & characters).
- Skills integration (ability to utilise varied disciplines within the context of the project) in the staging of a project based on a contemporary issue
- Creativity (Innovative responses to task, to opportunity, to playing partners and to direction): expression of own original views and ideas.
- Ensemble contribution in the creation of issue-led theatre (participation in and contribution to all elements of work).
