Module description

Masterclasses in Coaching aims to give our Masters-level students access to experts in the field. Using an interview style format, students will be able to generate pertinent questions and directly engage with expert practitioners working in and around the coaching environment at a range of levels. The module hopes to shine a light on various aspects of professional sport to better equip students with insider knowledge of various aspects and contexts within sport.

To advance student understanding of what it is like to work in professional sport.

Module learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of issues within professional practice in sports coaching.
2. Critically reflect upon own professional skills to benefit future learning and practice.
3. Coherently present ideas in oral form.
4. Coherently present ideas in written form.

Seminars will take place weekly with experts in each of these aspects of coaching.

  • In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
