Key module for

BSC B169 Physiotherapy

Module description

Students on this module will develop an understanding and appreciation of research and evidence informed practice, building on the Level 4 module (Practice-Based Decision-Making) where the paradigms and basic literature search skills have been introduced.

This is a more advanced module where the students will provide clear rationale for the evidence they have chosen based on the critique of the literature. Students are expected to select a topic relevant to their own profession and inter-professional specific interest.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:

  • To be able to identify a relevant topic for further evaluation applying skills in literature searching, retrieval and appraisal.

  • To produce a research proposal evidencing the selection of an appropriate research approach and associated methods.

Module learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to search for, analyse, critique and synthesise research to support the development of a research question relevant to physiotherapy.

  2. Develop a research proposal which includes evaluation of different approaches to research and a research design appropriate to answering the research question.
