This module is for those students who think they might like to be self-employed or start their own business. Many graduates with a degree in sports science or rehabilitation take this route but are unaware of the pitfalls that are associated with it.
This course is designed to enable you to succeed in business. This course is based around skills and knowledge and explores the nuts and bolts of having your own business, learning how to sell and marketise your ideas. You will get the opportunity to meet business persons who are making a successful career in your area.
The aims of this module are to:
1. Enable students to develop the knowledge and skills to set up a business.
2. Develop students’ ability to use their subject specific knowledge to provide a service to their clients.
3. Enhance students’ knowledge of the law and how it can inform applied professional practice.
4. Enable students to develop an appropriate service in appropriate to context in which they work.
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of marketing in the context of starting a business/becoming self- employed.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the regulations associated with starting a business/becoming self-employed.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of and competence in writing a business plan.
4. Demonstrate the skills required to make a business pitch.

3 hour 'Ideas Creation Workshop'
Lectures/ Seminars/Workshops: 20 hr including formal and informal feedback sessions on draft assignments.
Student managed learning (130 hrs): This will include reading, directed further reading, and preparation of assignments.
