This moduleis your final year project. It is a piece of work that you have carried out on your own, on the basis of the groundwork completed during the LT313 Newsroom Practice module.
It will demonstrate your command of much that you have learned and practised during your first two years in terms of defining a story, gathering information, conducting research, handling data and statistics, newsgathering by means of interviews, reading and other means, and presentation.
The aim of this module is to allow you to work on your own to show that you have a grasp of many of the fundamental skills and techniques that you will need to demonstrate as a working journalist.
At the end of the module you will have:
1. used your research and fact-finding skills to find, assess and present original findings in the area of your chosen subject
2. used your reporting and interviewing skills to gather further information and opinions about the subject
3. used your production skills to record and create content in different media, each of which will contribute to the finished work (see note * below)
4. created a piece of publishable multimedia work to professional standards, which adds new perspectives or information to the coverage of the story (see note * below)
*As an alternative to 3 and 4, you have the option of presenting your findings in the form of a written 3,000 word dissertation.
You will be working largely on your own, and the nature of the work will depend on the project you choose and the way in which you choose to present it.
