This module will enable you to develop an understanding of the relative role, value and impact of therapy within multiple contexts and environments.
There are many concepts and skills that are common between interprofessional colleagues. This module is designed to explore some of these common concepts and skills in order to further develop your understanding of your professional role and the role of others. Your learning will be enhanced by the contribution of multidisciplinary health professionals and service users to the learning environment.
This module runs 1 day a week in the autumn term, alongside ‘Informing Sciences 2’ module. You will draw upon the experiences you have gained from your first exploratory placement and other module learning in order to develop your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of therapy that are shared interprofessionally. The emphasis of this module is on further developing your self-directed learning and engagement, which is supported by tutor-led and small study group activities.
This module will enable you to develop an understanding of the relative role, value and impact of therapy within multiple contexts and environments.
On successful completion of this module, the [learner] will be able to:
1. Identify the constituents of therapy
2. Discuss therapeutic use of self in relation to the development of your professional identity
3. Demonstrate the interaction between self and others within the therapeutic relationship
This module runs on one afternoon and one morning a week in the spring term. In the summer term the module is one morning per week You will draw upon other module learning and the experiences you have gained from your first exploratory placement which falls in the middle of the module in order to develop your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of therapy that are shared inter-professionally. The emphasis of this module is on further developing your self-directed learning and engagement.
Overview:
Taking a developmental approach to the programme, within this module you will draw upon knowledge, understanding and experiences gained from previous learning, in order to further develop your understanding of the core tenets of occupational therapy. This module will provide opportunities for multidisciplinary health professionals and service users to share their knowledge and experiences relating to aspects of therapy. The interactive nature of this module is supported by small group work, tutorials and seminars which will form the basis of the learning methods within this module. The emphasis will be to further your development of skills in occupational therapy practice and self-directed study.
Lectures: Multidisciplinary health professionals and service users will contribute to the learning within this module in a negotiated teaching and learning style.
Independent: Drawing on your previous experience of EBL, you will explore content supported by student-led small groups and individual study.
Placement: Whilst this module does not include placement experience, you will draw upon experiences and learning gained on placement in order to further develop your understanding of the concepts of therapy.
Online: Using a blended learning approach you will be expected to engage and contribute to online group activities and use of online library facilities. A module Moodle page will support your learning on this module.
Tutorials: There will be opportunities for formative assessment tutorials however the emphasis for this module will be on developing your ability to articulate your informed thinking on specific subject areas within EBL and informal tutorial opportunities.
Skills: Throughout this module, you will draw on and extend your current knowledge and transferrable skills, in order to progress your occupational therapy identity and skills.

- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
