This module provides anintroduction to some of the main principles and practices of human resourcemanagement and organizational behaviourwithin Hospitality organisations.
The module combines lectures with work in small groups and individual study to provide students with an understanding of both the methods of managing a multi-cultural workforce and a critical understanding of contemporary management approaches to organisational behaviour for the international hospitality industry
This module aims to provide students with an understanding and critical insight into a range of principles and practices that affect the nature of organisational behaviour and the management of human resources in the international hospitality industry.
1. Recognise and evaluate the factors that shape organisational behaviour and the management of human resources.
2. Analyse the role of human resources management in recruitment and retention, staff development and performance management.
3. Critically reflect on HRM and Organisational Behaviour practices and apply them to contemporary issues within the international hospitality industry. 4. Critically evaluate the forces influencing the expectations and behaviour of international hospitality organisations.

Lectures and workshops will form the main methods for the delivery of this module and students will be expected to access and prepare for such sessions using the virtual learning environment and guided resources.
Where relevant, both operational and management information derived from the Wivenhoe House will be used in academic sessions.
It is the intention of the academic team to encourage high levels of guided independent learning and, as a consequence, students will not only be given access to the on-line learning resources ofthe University, but this will also be supplemented by access to a number of specialist online resources provided via the professional bodies and associations of which EHS is a member (IOH; HOSPA; UKH; ITT etc).
Case studies from the hospitality industry as well as complementary industries will be used to compare andcontrast different practice.
