Module description

This unit is linked to all other topics of the programme in that prior study and Wivenhoe House Hotel experience underpin the students' expertise and ability to complete the consultancy project which is provided by an external industry client. It is your chance to work on a live project that could have a significant impact on a hospitality business and create an invaluable connection to a high profile member of the industry.

Module aims

This module aims to enable you to:
1. Critically analyse the body of knowledge appropriate to the project brief to synthesise potential solutions to meet client requirements appropriate to the context within which this knowledge will be applied.
- Sourcing and managing information, research methods, analyzing research findings, proposing and justifying conclusions, recommendation and solutions;
- Managing the consultancy relationship;
- Project management skills.

2. Produce a consultancy intervention which is appropriately analytical, professional in style and presentation and meets the needs of the client’s brief.
- Cost/benefit analysis;
- Presentation and communication skills.

3. Conduct a professional presentation of findings to the client, listening to and dealing with questions in a responsive and sensitive manner.

4. Work effectively as part of a team, recognising and supporting the needs of the group, taking a lead role if appropriate and managing conflict.

Module learning outcomes

At the conclusion of this module you should be able to:

Learning and teaching methods

Learning and teaching will take the shape of either classroom based or online lectures and seminars where Wivenhoe House will be used to contextualize theory and illustrate practice. Self-managed learning will supplement seminars where you will be provided with guidance on required reading and on-line learning resources.
