Key module for

MA W40E12 Advanced Professional Theatre Practice,
MA W40E24 Advanced Professional Theatre Practice

Module description

This module is the culmination of the MA Advanced Professional Theatre Practice, allowing students to develop and present a substantial dissertation.

This module is an opportunity for students to develop ideas and practices that have emerged in their studies within the context of a dissertation. This module facilitates the production of an independently developed and finished thesisinformed by research and reflecting on the students' previous professional experience and learning through the course. To define the project and its aims, students will work independently and alongside a tutor (who will be assigned as mentor for the module).

The module will consider key aspects of how research plays a crucial role in performance, and how a performance can be the output of a creative's research. Students will be exposed to a wide range of approaches and methods through the study of performance documentation and an examination of the theories that underlie the practice of creating new and innovative work. While the emphasis will be on individual process, through an on-line forum the class group will serve a vital role for feedback, critique, and ongoing discussion into the various facets of practice-based research.
