MA W40E12 Advanced Professional Theatre Practice

Module description

This core module consolidates students' knowledge of relevant theories and practitioners.It engages with a series of theoretical frameworks, such as cultural politics or semiotics, which students apply into performance practice.

Module aims

This module enables students to identify and respond critically to a range of theories relevant to contemporary performance practice, and to develop an individual appreciation of how such theories can enhance and enrich their own practice. Students also locate their own professional work in the context of contemporary and recent practitioners in a variety of theatrical forms.

Module learning outcomes

On completion of this module, successful students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a knowledgeof a range of theoretical approaches to the creation and interpretation of performance.
2. Critically discuss the application of at least two theories to the work of professional practitioners.
3. Articulate opportunities for, and possible outcomes of, applying at least one theory to their own professional practice
