Module description

This module examines the main principles of Stanislavskian acting and directing methodology. It combines acting exercises with text analysis based on scenes from realistic plays and deals with the main acting and directing techniques developed by Stanislavsky and his Russian followers.

The method of physical action in theory and practice

The use of objects, songs, garments, animals

Emotional and sense memory

Text analysis: concepts of 'objective' , 'action', 'activity', 'wants and means'

Development of Stanislavsky's approach to acting: the naturalistic introvert and physical action phases

Creating a character, the use of models, observation and other triggers to the imagination

The principles of transformation

The central role of concept of 'tempo-rhythm' in the creation of characters.

Learning and teaching methods

Directed autonomous learning, workshops, rehearsals, seminars, presentations and feedback sessions.
